Bank Indonesia and EU-ASEAN Capacity Building Project for Monitoring Integration Progress and Statistics (EU-ASEAN COMPASS) had the pleasure to hold the “Statistics of International Trade in Services (SITS) Workshop” during 16th until 18th of March 2015. The workshop took place in Bank Indonesia.
The workshop was opened by welcoming remarks from Mr. Z. Arifin Lubis – Head of Balance of Payment Division of Bank Indonesia, and followed by Mrs. Elizabeth Alarilla – Senior Officer ASEAN Statistics, Mr. Romesh Paul – Team Leader EU-ASEAN COMPASS Project, and Mr. Sentot B. Widoyono – as the Representative of Indonesia’s National Program Coordinator (NPC) of COMPASS. The three days workshop was facilitated by Mr. François Renard, COMPASS SITS expert.
The workshop’s objectives were to provide participants with understanding on the data availability and the ability to utilize these data to support policy making and international trade negotiation, particularly on the international trade services sector. The interesting part of this workshop was that despite its focus on statistics of services, the participants were not only from data compiler institutions, such as central bank and national statistics office, but also from the users.
Participants came from 10 Government Institutions, which are Statistics Indonesia, Indonesia Financial Services Authority, Ministry of Trade, National Development Planning Agency, Ministry of Tourism, The Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Public Work, Ministry of Industry, and also Bank Indonesia as the host. This workshop was also attended by the representative of ASEAN Statistics Division.
